This is a typical case of Cavalier Poetry. The Cavalier Poets were a group of early 17th century writers who lived by the phrase “Carpe diem”. This is evident by the choice of words used in lines 2, 7, 11,13. Using words like haste, run, short, and quick to drive their point home. These writers shared common ground with those of the pastoral literature; in the sense of overly dramatized romanticism They were the flower children of the early 17th century. Living only for the moment, not considering the consequences of hastily made choices. The speaker of this poem is begging his or her lover to stay with them. They believe that the world they're living in will come to a swift end, and everything will perish. Which is why they “seize the day” in every way while they still can.

I Am A Soldier
The air I breath is thick with sand,
the weather is hot, almost too hot to stand.
But I press through it all to see the end of the day,
To see my baby girls, to hear them say my name.
I am their father, I am also a soldier.
The weapon I wield is American made,
And with its help many lives have been saved.
But this great tool does not come without regret,
many lives have been taken,
Too many lives to forget.
I hear the word "peace", how I long for that day.
But the jobs not done yet,
No sir!!
I have to stay.
"Lord please, please give me strength"
These are the words that I pray.
My prayers were answered when I heard Him say
"Press on my soldier, and give me your all,
For you are fulfilling a higher call."
"For on this earth you have honored my name,
you have given your life, just as I did the same."
"Welcome to heaven, a place is prepared
where you can live in peace, and never be scared"
"I love you my dear soldier, you have worn my name well,
Enter now my kingdom, where forever you will dwell."
~Jordan Cubino
Many thanks to all the men and women, who have given their lives on the battlefield.

What is Life?
Is life something that is here and now?
Or is it something that we take for granite?
In this day and age, the answer is in the question.
Life is a fleeting fancy, here today and gone tomorrow.
I say this because tonight, I saw how fragile life can be,
Even with something as small and mediocre as a little puppy.
This tiny creation of God, meant just as much to Him as anything else,
He created it, it's his handiwork, His work of art His masterpiece.
Then it hits me! If God cares this much about a little dog, how much more does he care for us!
